BEAST Restaurant, Toronto is part of Food Day Canada

At the University of Guelph’s Elora Research Station the testing is representative of the scope of crop research across the nation. At this single location, during one crop year, there are 1000 varieties of Canola (winter and spring), 4500 varieties of cereals (wheat and barley), 7000 varieties of corn; 1400 of edible beans (mainly white but also kidney and cranberry), and 1200 types of soybeans.

Chefs Scott and Rachelle Vivian announced in April of last year that they’d be leaving the Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar to open their own restaurant, BEAST. Both have stellar credentials.

BEAST is one of the new wave of restaurants that serves the carnivore community well. The menus have no flowery descriptions– just the basics. One entry reads, “Pork, pea shoots, yolk, mezzaluna,” while another is simply “Beast burger/taters”. Rachelle’s desserts are similar. “Beignets, chocolate, caramel, pecans” or “Strawberry tart, ricotta ice cream, black pepper.”
